if i could make some noise out of some facts i see, and asked to make them, i'd probably do something as follow.
Dear Officials,
FIFA have been making claims and stressing on fair play, and also believing that everyone associated with the organisation are amongst the top notch, finely selected. all games played under the name of the organisation are with high expectance of the players, coaches and even audience to respect the judges (referee - in this case rather) final decision.
no doubt, the south korean team has paid full respect upon seeing and believing that the assistant referee's judgement is correct, and pulled away from their defence when the offside flag was being raised.
the ironic part was, it wasn't an unanimous decision between both the head referee and the assistant referee who raised the flag. the head referee deems it a mistake because the last touch of the ball came from the koreans who then by mistake passes the ball to the swiss player, alexander frei, who then went on scoring a "goal".
i personally agree that human do err. but this is the FIFA world cup and any slight mistake by the players could lead to sending themselves back home, and not being able to strive on for glory for their own respective nation. in this case, the referee's error.
i wish there is no need to highlight on the other mistake the referees have made during the other match. the croatian player was obviously given yellow card twice, and only during the THIRD time he receives another yellow card, then was he sent out. 3 yellow cards in a match? impressive.
back to the topic.
what we saw were the furious koreans trying so hard to seek the head referee's understanding, yet, he went by the book, which i do not mean to deem wrong, but, the koreans weren't the ones to determine if the ball was offside. his assisting official is! play on was not to be entertained at that moment. the korean defence were already retreating back towards the midfield line only to hear screams of excitement by the swiss fans "GOAL!". how would anyone respond to that?
let's not say that the koreans are lacking far behind by 2 goals and that there is minimum time. had that accidental goal not taken place, it would not have provoked the korean spirit in any kind. they would still have gone on playing and eyeing for their equalizer goal which would jolly well be able to send them to the next rounds of playoffs.
facts are that the koreans went on seeking for goals, but any man who have just overcame such an incident would be emotionally affected. decisions made are not clear-headed thoughts. they are all rash acts. would an angry man acheive anything? not at all.
we take it in our stride that the swiss have been performing relatively well throughout the game, especially the scoring of the opening goal. yet, the referee had not at all given the koreans what they deserved.
two hand balls by the swiss were caught in the camera. yet, no penalty was given. struggles with the korean players in the penalty area, only warnings given. then, any slight push by team korea determines either a free kick or worse, another yellow card to that particular player's name.
all and all, was just part of the head referee's judgement, and we have no right at all to interfere, knowing that the referee should know the job better than us. but, allowing the accidental goal was the utmost disappointing decision made by the the head referee.
it seems like as though he's condemning his fellow assistant's error and at the same time rubbing salt on the innocent victim.
mistake - judgmental error.
damage - a nation's pride and glory.
although unfair to the swiss, i would gladly suggest a re-match for both teams to ease any unjust be it in the korean players or the global audiences.
thank you!
Yours sincerely,
